I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar to my situation. When I applied to NBC's Writers on the Verge, I received an e-mail the next day telling me that I had left a certain spot of the legal release blank and I needed to send a revised version. I did so the next day and didn't hear from them until yesterday. I got pretty much the same e-mail, but from a different person. I'm wondering what you guys think this might mean. Is it possible I've moved on to a semi-finalist round and reached a different reader or more likely that my original revision got lost in the shuffle and wasn't looked at for an entire month? Any theories would be helpful.

Thanks.

Phil

A couple of days after the deadline I also got an email telling me I had missed a spot on the application (which I thought was damn nice of them to notify me about), but nothing since. I doubt it means you're a semi-finalist... if you are, they'll notify you about that in no uncertain terms. I would suggest just doing what they ask. Good luck!

I just don't understand why a whole month would go by and then a new reader would e-mail me about my script. The finalist interviews start in a few weeks so you would think they would have to start narrowing down the entries somewhat. Plus, why would they do nothing with my application for a month and then ask me to do something for the second time? My hope is that I passed the first round of cuts and they accidentally forwarded my original e-mail with the unfinished legal release. I'm probably mistaken but this is the small bit of hope I have to cling to at this point.

And false hope is a good thing because...?

Sorry, dood, but I'm kind of a truth guy myself. (And, yes, I still find room for hope. ALWAYS.)

It's cool. I think you're misconstruing what I said slightly. I haven't said I've won or anything close to that, I just thought it was a little peculiar that I would get that specific message again from a new reader this far into the competition. I was mostly just asking for a legitimate reason that this would occur. And for the record, false hope is the reason I wrote and entered the script into the competition in the first place, along with everyone but the 8 people they choose as winners. I'm pretty sure this whole site along with its online courses are founded on the principle of false hope.

Really, I like to check this site regularly, but I have been disappointed by the lack of posts. I usually see four or five a day. I think it might have something to do with the fact that of those four or five daily posts, I would estimate that three of them are just someone stretching his or her intellectual wit to its limits to establish themselves as the alpha dog of this sad little corner of the internet by pissing on someone else's ideas. I mean, I'm all for realistic expectations and staying grounded, but the reality of being an aspiring writer is that it's a lonely endeavor populated by you, a few delusions, and a thousand doubts.

What's the point of being so pessimistic? Seriously, it seems like everyone here treats everyone else like shit until they find out they've achieved something at which point they pretend that they're peers. Maybe you guys just caught me during a bad day. Sorry for offending anyone, but I'm getting pretty tired of the negativity in this online community that is supposed encourage fellow writers. I'm sure someone will pick my post apart word by word and highlight logical fallacies, but really, I don't care. Have a good one.

Actually, I think this place, like all endeavors centered around aspiring writers, is too supportive. The realities are even harsher.

I agree, but I prefer not to kick butt unless I absolutely get frustrated as hell here because God knows everyone who comes to TVW.C is going to end up fighting for their lives not if they DON'T make it but if they DO.

The supreme irony of showbiz. Ah, yes.
