Hello all! First post!
Overhead Press p-)

But anywho- I'm writing a spec for Community and the episode was going to be based around a rise in textbook prices and how it effects the group. The only problem is, this means the episode must take place at the beginning of the season (if not the first episode).

Is that a problem? Should I think up a story that more malleable- so it's able to fit anywhere in a season?

Thanks!

Phil M

If you have to have your story set before the premier episode, perhaps you can make it a flashback, and write a wrap around to open and close the episode.

But something like that may be a bit more complicated for a spec.

I don't understand why a rise in textbook prices can't happen at any time. It sure did when I was in college.

Welcome to TVWriter.Com, philm. Now stop with the overthinking and WRITE the damn thing!

(In other words, ya'll ain't got nuthin' to worry 'bout here. The people who'll read your spec most likely will never have seen the show anyway. If they have, the odds are greatly against them having more than a surface familiarity. Certainly not the agents or execs or producers, who have their own shows to worry about.)

Good luck.

LYMI,

LB
