Is the search functionality on the board limited date-range?

A couple times recently I've searched for an old post that I KNOW that I made and haven't been able to find it using any of the five words I KNOW were in it. When we changed board software, did we lose the old data?

The search is supposed to include everything ever posted on this board - phpBB. If you posted before the most recent upgrade of the board, your posts should still be findable. If you posted on our previous board, yep, sorry, it's gone.

Well, not really gone, but unavailable. That database still exists, but it's stored elsewhere. When we plugged it into this board we found that we suddenly were using way too much bandwidth, going over our hosting company's limit and all that. Trying to work that out became a huge pain in the watusi, so....

Of course, something could indeed be wrong with the search. I have a lot of trouble finding things too. Which means--

Oh, Dan? Dan? Dan!

LB

Barry,

Try this: /search.php?author_id=2571&sr=posts

If you need to refine, go to the bottom and do a keyword search in that box. I tested it for "schedule" and got a hit. Let me know if that works for you.

If you need to use your old id (BarryInDC) /search.php?author_id=113&sr=posts

As for keyword searches, in general, I too have had problems. I have a feeling it is a encoding issue. (usually that's the deal.)

I will get us upgraded to the newest releases tonight, then look into it.

First the bad news:

I have tried several times to upgrade to the latest versions of the phpBB, but the automatic install procedure is failing.

I have no idea why. They have worked in the past.

I am hesitant to make any code changes directly to fix the search issues without being up to date, since this could interfere with future updates.

Also it takes a butt load of time to comb through code. And most of these issues end up being configuration or deployment, not code in the long run. So I will keep looking for those kinds of solutions.

Some Good news:

I might have FINALLY fixed the "invalid form" error we have all come to know and love. I am not certain, but I made a change today that might have done the trick.

I have yet to get the error since the change.

Also:

I know I have been doing a lousy job on support lately. In my defense, not only do you get what you pay for, but this upgrade has been particularly frustrating to deal with. I have been constantly doing days and days of searching for fixes only to run into wall after wall.

And then I just give the fuck up.

The biggest problem is I don't want to make direct changes to the code. That is almost always a big No-No that will bite you in the ass when trying to stay current with later releases.

The second is, that I cannot replicate the problems on a duplicate installation on my home computer even using the same database. So I have to test every solution on the production server, which is risky; since, it could interfere with you guys using the board. Or worse, I could fuck it up completely. So I try to do it at odd hours. Which I don't mind, but sometimes odd hours can be hard to come by.

And the fact that NOW I cannot even install the latest release, well, you see what I have to deal with....

Don't feel bad about prodding me for more responses. Or letting me know the problems, so that I keep at it...

Wow - that's a big fix. I'll be happy with that :).

Thanks for all the hard work.
